Police Scotland are further alerting the public, particularly those who are employed in shops or regularly handle cash to be aware of counterfeit banknotes which have recently been tendered in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
A number of reports have been received of counterfeit £50 notes being tendered in shops for low cost items in Inverurie, Aberdeen and Stonehaven. All of the counterfeit notes have the serial number AA294395.
Constable Angela Dow said: 'We would like to advise staff to check any high value bank notes which are tendered before giving change, we would also encourage any staff members or shop owners to report any such instances to Police Scotland."
It is believed that the same male suspect has been tendering the notes at various commercial outlets. He is described as 5'7- 5'8 tall, short dark hair, wearing grey long shorts and t-shirt with distinctive tattoos on his neck.
The counterfeit £50 notes with the serial number AA294395 are also believed to have been tendered by the same male in Glenrothes, Dundee and Montrose and anyone who has any information on these incidents is encouraged to contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
