An Exhibition of the work of a well-known Mearns artist opens is running in Stonehaven throughout the month of October.

This is D E Johnston’s first one-man show in Stonehaven since the late 1980s when he showed work in the Riverside Gallery.

The venue is Gallery at Fifty Five where the 36 watercolours on show include Mearns landscapes, seascapes and works depicting the shoreline at St Cyrus and Catterline. The artist will give a presentation at 2pm on Saturday, October 15 at Gallery Fifty-Five. Anyone interested in attending should contact Eion Stewart at the Gallery in advance to ensure a place as these are limited by space.

While the artist has painted in the Howe and on the coast at St Cyrus for many years, this is the first time he has chosen Catterline as a location.

And, while many of the compositions will be familiar to those who visit the show, the artist has interpreted the cliffs, rocky outcrops, shoreline and headlands in his own distinctive style.

David Johnston continues to live and work in Laurencekirk in the heart of the Mearns, where he was born and brought up.

The exhibition at Gallery at Fifty-Five, 55 Allardice Street, Stonehaven runs until the end of October.
