A woman has died after her car plunged 200ft down an embankment and landed in a pond on Monday night.

Police confirmed on Tuesday that 48-year-old Lesleyann Smith of Echt had died following the accident on the A92 at Inverbervie.

Lesleyann was travelling on the A92 when her white Vauxhall Corsa left the road on a bend at the north end of Inverbervie.

Police, Fire and Ambulance services were all on the scene of the accident on Monday evening and the coastal route was closed in both directions with local diversions put in place for several hours.

A Police Spokesperson said: “Police Scotland can confirm that the woman who died in a one-vehicle RTC on the A92 at Inverbervie on Monday, 22, June, 2015, at around 4.30pm was Lesleyann Smith, 48, of Echt.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw this vehicle being driven on the road is asked to call Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous.”
