Youth team trophy triumph

Congratulations go to the Stonehaven Ury Players Youth Team who won two trophies at the SCDA One Act Play Divisional Festival at the Birnam Institute in Birnam, Perthsire on Saturday.

Representing Aberdeen District, and facing stiff opposition from teams from Montrose, Perth and Orkney, the team won the Jayne Nicol Youth Trophy for Best Team, and the Morton Cup for Best Moment of Theatre.

Adjudicator Colin Peter said he enjoyed the performance immensely and there was much to commend it. He said it was a real team effort that excelled in so many areas.

The Best Moment award went to James Johnson for his fight with a ‘weight’ in his spotty friend’s bedroom.

The team were performing ‘SPOTS’ written by local playwright Russell Adams which was directed by Peter Esson. The team now go on to represent the Ury Players and Aberdeen District SCDA at the Scottish Youth Final held at The Ryan Theatre in Stranraer on Saturday June 16.

The winning team was Lois Donaldson, Kirsty Lockhart, Andrew Dart, James Johnson, Rhys Robertson, Ailsa Mackintosh, Jenny Ritchie, Emily Kerr, Emily Esson, Sophie Angus.
