Johnshaven travelled to Echt to play the League leaders without Manager Pete Williams who was ill and three experienced players who were unavailable on the day.

Echt came out trying to get a quick goal but Johnshaven’s defence held.

In the 14th minute Johnshaven had their first of chance of scoring when the ball was played through to C. Spink but his shot was blocked by the advancing Echt keeper.

In the 27th minute Echt attacked down the left wing then played the ball into the 18yd box.

Johnshaven failed to clear the cross and the ball fell nicely for the Echt player who controlled it then shot and scored beating the Johnner keeper to put them in the lead.

Five minutes later a long clearance found the head of an Echt player who headed towards the goal allowing his teammate who was running in on goal to have the final touch to increase their lead.

Johnshaven were forced to make 2 substitutions at half time when Couineaux-Rice replaced an injured Bailey & Lachlan Craig replaced an exhausted Stuart Beedie.

Johnner keeper Spink was soon called upon to make two excellent saves in quick succession.

On the hour-mark Echt hit Johnshaven down the right then cut in and slammed home goal number 3.

Shortly after this a shot from Echt rebounded off the inside of the post but the quick reaction of Johnshaven keeper Spink pushed the ball away from an advancing Echt player preventing a goal.

In the 66th minute Stephen Stephen collected the ball ran 10 yds to the half way line from where he spotted the Echt keeper was off his line so unleashed a powerful shot which screamed into the bottom corner of the net.

Johnshaven held out for 20 minutes before the next Echt goal; however this was soon followed by the final Echt goal which came from a low cross into the penalty area before being scored at the back post.

It was always going to be a hard game against the League leaders and while the first half performance was not Johnshaven’s greatest there was a marked improvement in the second half even if the 2 late goals seemed not to reflect this.

Final Score 5-1
