When the action got under way at a windswept Galaxy Bowl it was the home side who had the first chance as Lloyd Henderson shot past the post .
In the sixth minute, Andrew Stirling and Lloyd Henderson worked a chance for Dean McComiskie who forced a save from the Vaults keeper.
Two minutes later Northern Vaults were awarded an indirect free kick but couldn’t take full advantage.
In the 15th minute it was 1-0 to the Galaxy as Dean McComiskie fired home from just inside box after the visitors needlessly conceded possession to the striker.
The lead lasted only 14 minutes as the Vaults worked the ball down the right and before cutting in and firing a shot into David Jamieson’s bottom right hand corner to make it 1-1.
Less than 60 seconds later, Fordoun restored their lead as Dean McComiskie latched onto a delightful Craig Thomson through-ball and rifled over the ‘keeper into the roof of the net.
It was 3-1 in the 37th minute when Ross Stirling played a great ball through for Craig Thomson who calmly rolled it into the bottom corner.
With four minutes of the half remaining, Northern Vaults hit the post while at the other end Lloyd Henderson worked his way into box before shooting past the post.
Vaults struck first in the second half. With only one minute played they worked the ball down the right and an attacker cut inside and shot across David Jamieson to make it 3-2.
Derry Simpson had been caught sleeping for the second Vaults goal but within 30 seconds of the restart he did brilliantly down left and showed composure to cut back for Dean McComskie to complete his hat-trick.
Ten minutes later McComiskie, James Mennie and Ross Stirling were all involved in a flowing move before setting up Craig Thomson whose shot was saved.
In the 61st minute, David Jamieson made a good save from a 20-yard shot. Dean McComiskie crossed for Craig Thomson whose tame header was saved.
The last 20 minutes were pretty open but Fordoun had the best of the chances. Craig Thomson saw his header brilliantly saved from a Kevin Duncan cross.
Meanwhile, Iain Cuthill showed which area of his game needed work when he brought down a Lloyd Davies cross before pulling his shot past the post from six yards.
In the end it was Fordoun who were victorious and they will now face Lochside in the quarter finals.
