Hive are well beaten by the league leaders

Stonehaven travelled to Maud looking to build on last week’s win over Deveronside and take all three points against the leaders to push up to second in the league.

The hosts, however, had other ideas and took the lead in just the second minute, when a Hale free kick found Robertson, whose shot found the back of the net.

There was a chance for the visitors on 12 minutes when a pass from Mathieson to Armstrong saw a good ball in to the penalty-spot area, however Cook saw his header held by Dunbar.

With 16 minutes gone, the home side’s lead was doubled when a short back pass from Low saw Hale latch onto the ball and round Capstick before scoring from a tight angle.

Worse was to come three minutes later, after the ball was lost down the Hive right and Bremner made no mistake from Hale’s cross.

A minute later, McWilliam played the ball out wide and did well to get it back on the edge of the area but he could only send his shot wide.

Cook came closer with his second attempt of the game, on 27 minutes, when his header from Jordan Reid’s excellent cross was well saved by Dunbar.

As the half drew to a close Capstick kept the hosts from increasing when he did brilliantly to tip over from a Fraser free kick.

Half-time - Maud 3, Stonehaven 0

The half-time break saw two changes made by Stonehaven, as they changed their formation to a 3-5-2. Darren Taylor replaced Michael Mathieson and Valentinas Sulkevicius replaced Rob Armstrong.

Unfortunately for the Hive, the changes made no difference to the attacking intent of the hosts and just a minute into the second period, Rae struck low into the far corner, from outside the penalty area, to make it 4-0.

Taylor was unlucky not to pull a goal back on 58 minutes, when he saw his free-kick excellently tipped over the bar by Dunbar. The resultant corner found McTavish but he could only send his header over the crossbar.

Maud continued to press for more goals to add to their haul and Willox came close shortly after, but could only fire wide of target.

Hale did well down the left with a few minutes remaining, only for his shot to whistle past the far post and then Barbour was unlucky to see Capstick come out to block his shot, after good build-up play.

In the last minute, Stonehaven did manage to salvage something as Shand crossed low to TAYLOR who finished well from a tight angle.
