Rampant Rossvale made club history on Saturday at the expense of Stonehaven FC as they stormed into the last 16 of the Scottish Junior Cup for the first time in the club’s history.

The Bishopbriggs side cruised to a 6-1 victory over Hive to book their place in the fifth round draw.

Both teams were glad to get the ETHX Energy Scottish Cup fourth round game underway following last weekend’s disappointing late call off due to snow.

The opening exchanges were somewhat frantic as each team attempted to gain dominance over the other with both creating scoring opportunities.

But Rossvale were beginning to take control of the game and made the breakthrough after 20 minutes.

Rossvales Jamie Hunter evaded two challenges before being scythed down inside the box and Alex Cassells gave Stark no chance from the spot.

The Rossvale advantage was doubled 10 minutes later when Joe Bradley’s looping cross was met sweetly by Ryan Coll who bulleted his header into the gaping net.

Stonehaven began the second period slightly better but Rossvale weathered the storm, although they had to wait until the 73rd minute to increase their lead.

Rossvales Jay McKay got in behind the Stonehavens defence before cutting the ball back to Bradley and from his cross Cassells rocketed home a header.

Stonehaven gained themselves a lifeline four minutes later when Rossvale failed to clear their lines and the ball broke to Stephen Robertson who curled a right-foot shot home from just outside the box.

This seemed to sting Rossvale into upping their game once again and the three-goal advantage was restored in
84 minutes.

Hunter’s cross for the home side eluded everyone except Chris McQuade who had made excellent ground to get to the back post and with the inside of his right foot put the ball high into the Stonehaven net.

Rossvale’s fifth goal was almost a mirror image. This time Corey Irvine was the provider from the Rossvale right hand side with Lewis Kinnaird the executioner at the back post.

The scoring was finished when Stark saved an excellent solo effort by McQuade but the ball rebounded to Cassells who sidestepped a defender and calmly placed the ball home to complete his hat-trick.
