Stonehaven ended their Grill League Cup campaign with a narrow 3-2 win over First Division west side, Burghead Thistle, at Glenury on Saturday.
The Hive could, and perhaps should, have taken the lead as early as the first minute when a great Campbell Watt cross found the Ewan Gibson but he could only send his header crashing back off of the crossbar.
Strachan and Armstrong both saw headers cleared off the line before the visitors broke upfield on the 21st minute and took the lead through Andrew Walker.
Stonehaven came close a minute later when Cormack headed wide of the near post, however he made amends just four minutes later when he emphatically fired home from the penalty spot following a foul on Armstrong.
Tim Capstick, making his first appearance of the season, was beaten again just after the half hour when a free kick from the right was headed past him by Ian Lunan.
As the second half wore on The Hive came into the game more and created a few chances but it wasn’t until the 78th minute that they took the lead. Stephen Robertson played the ball to Kyle Bellu who found Danny Anderson and he found the net from six yards out.
The winner came just over five minutes later, Bellu was involved again as he laid the ball into the path of Rob Armstrong who struck low and into the bottom left hand corner of the net.
Two minutes later Stonehaven were let out of jail when a ball across the box was met by Walker but he fired over the bar and the hosts held on to take the points.
