Hive secure semi final slot

Stonehaven welcomed East End to Glenury on Saturday in the McLeman Cup quarter-final, looking to exact some revenge for the previous week’s 2-0 away defeat.

Martin Shand tried his luck from distance in the first minute but his effort went over the crossbar.

The Hive took the lead through Martin Shand after eight minutes when he headed an Armstrong corner into the far right corner of the net.

The visitors had a chance on 21 minutes when the ball was lost by Robertson but the ball was cleared eventually for a corner which despite being unchallenged saw McTavish head just over the bar.

East End were awarded a debatable penalty on the 37th minute but justice was done when Fraser Stark made a great save from Jordan Reid’s spot kick.

Graeme Wilson doubled the Hive lead after 56 minutes when he made sure that Michael Cormack’s goal bound header crossed the line.

The hosts had little in the way of real chances in the second half and East End, reduced to 10 men following Ryan Smith’s double booking for dissent, grabbed a consolation after 83 minutes courtesy of Jordan Reid.

Despite coming close in the last minute, the visitors were unable to force the game to a penalty shootout and the Hive held out to set up a home semi-final against Maud.
