The award was introduced in 2015 to encourage people across the UK to nominate a deserving ‘football mum’.

The award recognises those mums who selflessly dedicate countless hours of their spare time so that their children can enjoy playing football.

Laura was presented her award on stage at Hampden Park by ex-Scotland player Graeme Souness.

Laura was chosen as the overall winner of the 2016 Football Mum of the Year by McDonald’s Head of Women’s and Girl’s Football Casey Stoney and Coleen Rooney, wife of England and Manchester United Captain Wayne Rooney, as well as Scottish McDonald’s franchisee Kate Walker.

Laura is a highly organised, encouraging and motivated coach to her team at Stonehaven Football Club.

Although Laura works full time, she is truly committed to coaching her team and spends her free time helping the club with whatever needs to be done.

Not only does Laura have a full time job and still puts aside the time to coach, but in May she organised a 5km a day challenge to help raise money for her team and for Macmillan cancer support.

She also regularly organises events for her players to get involved in.

Ex-Scotland player Graeme Souness who handed Laura her award on the night said “I’m incredibly pleased to have been able to give Laura this award, it’s great to be able to recognise all of the Grassroots Awards winners at this event, and Laura’s achievements with Stonehaven FC are truly impressive.”
