The event was also held last year with over £3000 raised for the Davy Crabb Mearns Foundation.

Davy was a stalwart of the Mearns United club for many years as a player, then later as manager/committee member. Davy died in December 2007 aged 47 with his son Ryan doing many different events over the years to raise funds for the charity.

Since Davy’s death, his friends associated with Mearns United have been raising cash for deserving causes. They have donated an ice machine to the Kincardine Community Hospital and also made a contribution to the Anchor Unit.

The money has been raised at various fundraising nights held in the Station Hotel, including a Deal or No Deal, a Stonehaven’s Got Talent and a Stars in their Eyes.

Ryan said: “I’d like to thank everyone who attended the football and bbq during the day and all the people who bought tickets at night, but especially all those who gave raffles or sponsored podiums for the weakest link.

“The final total raised for the day was £3,400 which will be distributed to local charities and those who need it the most.”

Sponsors for the event included: Mearns Motors, Teperek Engineering, Brickfield Motors, Leslies Of Stonehaven, Keith Douglas Construction, Stonehaven Joinery, Walker Technical, Kirktown Vets, GT Roofing and Joinery, Premier Discos, AGH Joinery, Howies Hairdressers, Petrofac Training Services, Ross Leitch Joinery Services, The Station Hotel, G Contracts and
