Stonehaven Ladies edge Elgin

Stonehaven ladies travelled up north to face third placed Elgin City ladies for their final game of the season knowing all three points would secure second place.

Elgin started the brighter and it was them that took the lead, their striker finding space to run through and finish low into the net.

It didn’t take them long to double their lead to make it 2-0.

Stoney got a goal back, a ball over the top from Penny found Gordon who finished past the Elgin keeper from close range.

Elgin then restored their two-goal advantage to make it 3-1 but Stoney got a goal back before the break, a corner from the left hand side being met by the head of McBay.

The second half was a much tighter affair than the first, with both teams enjoying plenty of possession without creating too many clear cut chances, but then Stonehaven got their equalizer and McBay’s second of the match, Great wing play from E.Bowie on the right was followed by a cross into the box where McBay finished with a bullet header.

Stoney had the confidence and continued to push forward for a winner. They got this through E.Bowie, who cut inside from the wing to finish high over the keeper’s head to take the game for Stonehaven.
