Fordoun Galaxy off and running for 2013

Fordoun 3

Fordoun met MCT in their first game of 2013 on Sunday and after a short winter break both teams struggled to get up to speed and an MCT strike from distance was the only effort which troubled either goal in the opening exchanges.

Fordoun struck first after 16 minutes when they won a free kick, Duncan claimed the ball before firing a sweet strike past the MCT keeper and into the top corner. Two minutes later MCT went close when they sent a header past the post before Anderson headed a Murray corner narrowly past at the other end.

It was 2-0 in 30 minutes when the visiting keeper made a hash of another Murray corner and diverted the ball into his own net. Five minutes before half time Murray swung in a free kick which Cargill met but headed over the bar.

Six minutes into the second half Murray met a loose ball with a snapshot which forced the MCT keeper into a smart save then in the 71st minute Fordoun ‘keeper Milne saved well with his feet.

Fordoun went in search of the third goal which would finish the match as a contest and in the 75th minute a McComiskie shot was deflected past the post.

A minute later a Murray corner hit the post before Nathan Keddie sent the rebound into the side netting. MCT had a lifeline in 83 minutes when Cruickshank was adjudged to have brought down an MCT attacker in the box but Milne bailed the defender out when he saved the penalty kick.

With 5 minutes remaining Nathan Keddie was hauled back in the box and stepped up to take the penalty kick himself. Fordoun’s top scorer made no mistake and added some gloss to the scoreline with his 19th strike of the season.
