Fordoun lose out to Caley Thistle

FORDOUN travelled to Montrose on Sunday for a league clash with MCT and came home on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline.

Hector created Fordoun’s first chance in nine minutes when he crossed for Thomson to head over the top.

In seventeen minutes Hector had a shot turned round the post for a corner and twelve minutes later Thomson spurned a great chance heading a Murray corner over the bar from close range.

In the 31st minute the home side took the lead when McPherson put the ball through the legs of Welsh.

Welsh was then quickly off his line to deny McPherson and the ball found its way to the MCT number 10 who shot over.

In the 42nd minute Fordoun played their first football of the half working the ball down the left before crossing for Thomson who saw his shot blocked for a corner.

Fordoun started the second half brightly and in the 50th minute Hector played Keddie down the left hand side, his cross caused problems and a home defender sliced the ball over his own crossbar.

In the 61st minute MCT doubled their lead when Candy crossed to the back post and an unmarked MCT attacker met the cross to finish well. Galaxy needed to respond quickly and in the 65th minute pulled one back after a quick break was finished well by Murray.

Fordoun had the momentum for the first time in the match but couldn’t create any clear cut chances and MCT regained their two goal advantage in the 78th minute. McPherson crossed for Candy to score.

Two minutes later Fordoun replaced A Stirling and Keddie with Pearson and Deans who has recently joined the Galaxy from Montrose Youth.

In the 85th minute Cruickshank went off injured and having used all their substitutes Fordoun finished the game with 10 men.

The visitors had their last chance one minute from time when an R Welsh free kick was blocked and Thomson fired the rebound wide.

Both sides are in action at Broomfield at the weekend with MCT facing another stiff test when Hudsons are the visitors in the league, while Fordoun will look for an improvement against Picture House in the first round of the Matrix Cup.
