Girls do well in tournament

stonehaven U13 girls were well beaten at home to Deesside in the league in June 15.

This was a tired performance from the team, many of whom had played on four out of the previous five days. The girls tried hard but Deesside appeared fresher throughout. Anne Laing went close on a couple of occasions but the result was never in doubt.

Team: Chelsea Traynor, Katy Townsend, Eilidh Mitchell (capt), Molly McVey, Emily Grundy, Lisa Porter, Anne Laing. Subs: Kirsten Johnston and Lucy McVey.

Player of match Kirsten Johnston who brought some energy to the team. Magic Moment: an Anne Laing spin and shot.

The first half of the season ended with a splendid tournament at Alford for teams of Primary school age. Stonie more than held their own against teams of their own age.

Put into the group with the stronger teams, Stonie opened with two 0-0 draws against Westhill and Colony Park. They then lost 3-0 against a very strong Aberdeen East End Side.

The next game saw a wonderful mazy dribble and finish from Anne Laing and a neat sidestep and strong shot from Katy Townsend earn a 2-0 win against Bramble Brae before Stonie did everything but score in a final 0-0 draw against Broomhill with Eilidh Mitchell, Brooke Farquhar and Emily Grundy all narrowly missing.

Team: Anne McLeod, Katy Townsend, Kirsten Johnston, Emily Grundy, Eilidh Mitchell (capt), Anne Laing, Lucy McVey, Brooke Farquhar.

Players of the tournament; Townsend’s athleticism and Farquhar’s trickery.

Magic Moment: a sweeping move involving five players which took the ball the length of the pitch v Broomhill.
