Johnshaven fifth after win

Johnshaven travelled to Banchory on league duty on Saturday and the win means they have risen to fifth in the league. The victory came after they went down to ten men in the first half.

Johnshaven started the brighter of the two teams and took the lead on seven minutes. A slick pass from MacLaren found Paul Haggart who shot low from the edge of the box and gave the keeper no chance.

The away team had the chance to double their lead in 18 minutes after left back Slavin went on a mazy run down the left and eventually laid the ball off to Haggart whose cross found Ross Blease at the back post but his timid shot was blocked.

Both Johnshaven full backs were pushing on at every opportunity as Johnshaven dominated possession and after Dalgarno forced a defender into making a mistake, the ball fell to Smith who blasted over from 10 yards.

Ross Blease looked like he had given Johnshaven a well deserved cushion in 40 minutes when he tried an audacious chip from the edge of the box, but the keeper managed to pull off a wonder save to keep the scoreline the same.

In the 43rd minute Johnshaven were reduced to 10 men when they had a player sent off.

Johnshaven did double their lead on the stroke of half time after a clever back heel from Beedie found Shaun Blease who powered home a shot from five yards.

Banchory started well in the second half and it needed a fantastic one handed save from goalkeeper Jamieson to prevent them getting a goal back.

Johnshaven made it 3-0 in the 56th minute after a 50 yard angled pass from Dalgarno found Shaun Blease who chipped the advancing keeper.

Dalgarno almost got the goal his play deserved after beating three men on a solo run, but he pulled his shot wide.

In the 87th minute a free kick from MacLaren was fumbled by the goalkeeper and captain Steven Scott was on hand to volley into the net to make it 4-0.

The final whistle blew shortly after to confirm Johnshaven’s win and great credit must go to every player for the effort they put in after finding themselves with a numerical disadvantage in the first half.
