Johnshaven upset form book with win

JOHNSHAVEN upset the form book on Saturday when they beat high-flying Portlethen United in the league.

Portlethen had the first chance in three minutes when Mathieson was in on goal, but the Johnshaven trialist keeper saved.

In five minutes a Smith shot was blocked by Portlethen keeper Murphy.

Mathieson then delivered a Portlethen corner into the box where Brown got in a header which was saved by the keeper.

Johnshaven opened the scoring in the 16th minute. Smith drilled the ball in to Scott Beedie whose shot was deflected to Ross Blease who put the ball past the advancing keeper.

Portlethen hit back and a Ross pass was headed on by Christie to Gray and his shot was blocked for a corner.

In 22 minutes Tringham headed straight at Murphy. Five minutes later Johnshaven worked the ball up the left and a Slavin cross was grabbed by Murphy before Scott Beedie could connect.

ross Blease then crossed for Beedie to hit the side netting.

Gray had a shot held by the home keeper, then Dalgarno cleared a corner off the Johnshaven line.

in 42 minutes, Gray was one on one with the Johnshaven keeper who blocked the shot with his feet.

In the 48th minute Johnshaven won a corner and MacLaren’s header went just over the bar.

A minute later the feet of the Johnshaven keeper saved a shot from Ross.

On the hour, Smith cut in from the left and let fly with a shot, which went straight to the Portlethen keeper.

Ross Blease shot just past the post, then in the 65th minute MacLaren had a shot held by Murphy.

portlethen went close when Christie picked out Ross and his shot on the turn went just over the bar.

Ross Blease then played in Tringham and his shot was held by Murphy.

In the dying minutes a blistering shot by Smith looked to be going in to the top corner but Murphy managed to tip the ball over the bar. Following the corner, Smith shot just past the post.
