Late goals beat Stoney girls

Buchan Girls 2

Stonehaven Girls U13 0

A rip-roaring performance at Fetterangus deserved better than conceding two late goals to lose this game. With an enthusiastic away support of parents on a lovely September morning Stonie dominated the early exchanges with Laing’s dribbling prominent. Stonies strong running midfield of Townsend, Mitchell and Grundy started to force a number of corners but Buchan looked dangerous on the break. Only a couple of brave McVey saves kept it scoreless at half-time.

Even the introduction of substitutes kept up the momentum with Farquhar’s trickiness and Adams working hard. Mitchell went close, Laing slid an effort wide and a last ditch tackle stopped a Townsend break from midfield. However the direct counter-attacking of Buchan led to heroic defending from Johnston and Imray. As Stonie over-commited looking for the winner Buchan scored a beauty then a fluke in the last couple of minutes to snatch a win.

Stonehaven: Molly McVey, Kirsten Johnston, Danielle Imray, Eilidh Mitchell, Katy Townsend, Emily Grundy, Ann Laing. Subs Brooke Farquhar, Ailsa Adams.

Player of the match was Molly McVey for her effective, if unorthodox keeping.

Magic Moment was the noisy but positive away support.

The Stonehaven Girls Developmental beat Deesside 6-5.

Stonie raced to a 3-0 half-time lead through a Denniston blockbuster, and goals from McVey and Townsend.

At that stage the defence of Beedie and Porter looked solid and Henderson and Doyle were busy in midfield. McVey then added a fourth before Deesside’s tricky young side rallied to grab a 5-4 lead. Enter Johnston who powered through to equalise then grab a late winner.

Stonehaven: Chelsea Traynor, Erin Beedie, Kirsten Johnston, Katy Townsend, Laura Porter, Caitlin Denniston, Lucy McVey. Subs Ashleigh Doyle, Erin Henderson.

Player of the match last gasp heroine Johnston and Magic Moment, a superb Traynor save.
