Loss to Bon-Accord

A sunny Mineralwell Park welcomed league champions Bon Accord on Saturday. Thistle 1st X1 inserted the Bons and had an early boost when King, replacing the wayward Findlay, had the league’s No.1 batsman caught by Hinchcliffe on 7. The very same over saw the demise of Bons skipper Win for 0, superbly taken bat pad by the fully prostrate Balsillie.

Opener Hussain continued to struggle but power hitter Mirza was punishing short bowling and quickly pushed to 23 before being tempted by the first ball of change bowler Jon VDR, excellently taken by Ritchie whose form behind the stumps improves weekly. King then bowled Ahmed for 0, leaving the Bons on 47-5.

Andy Meres and Hussain looked to consolidate and slowly moved the innings forward despite playing out several maidens. Jon DVR then bowled Meres for 8 and King removed Malik for 7.

Opener Hussain was finally bowled by the hard working Balsillie on 18. The Bons innings was then quickly concluded with King bowling Noor for 0, Bhalani being well caught by Lambson from DVR’s bowling and Morrison being Kings final wicket, a well struck drive pouched by Hibbs. Bon Accord 96 ao, from 42 overs.

Thistle’s bowlers performed great work, Hinchcliffe conceding a mere 16 from 12 overs, Balsille 1-26 from 9, Jon DVR returning a superb 3-12 from 12, yet bettered still by King’s figures of 6-22 from 10.

Thistle knew their job was only half done and that batting application would be needed. They started steadily but with the score on 16 form batsman Donald gloved a seaming Malik delivery to the keeper for 4.

Skipper Milroy has yet to find form and was also dismissed by Malik 2 overs later on 10. Alex Keith was looking assured but Thistle had another blow when Jon DVR was lbw to the wily Malik (3-21).

Lambson fell LBW on 4 but Keith and Hibbs gave Thistle hope before Hibbs played one from the shoulder from Awan that was gratefully collected by Morrison. Awan (2-17) then had a well struck Ritchie drive caught by Bhalani for 0 and Thistle were struggling on 53 for 7.

Things got worse when potential match winner Keith on 11, was tightly judged out of his ground to a magnificent piece of close fielding from Win. King was bowled by Ahmed (2-21) for 1 and Bons looked firm favourites.

However a revival by no’s 9 and 10 batmen, Balisille and Hinchcliffe, brought hope with a 28 partnership, until Balsillie was bowled by Hussain for the innings top score 19. Findlay was the final wicket to fall, with Hinchcliffe unbeaten on 7, Thistle all out for a disappointing 81. The Bon Accord team winning an exciting match by 15 runs.
