Luthermuir beat the Premier Division leaders

Luthermuir FC became the first team to beat Premier Division leaders Sportsman’s Club in the league this season when they triumphed 2-1 in a stormy game on Saturday.

Sportsman’s started well and took the lead in five minutes. The ball was crossed from the left and first-timed past Wands from 12 yards.

The league leaders dominated the first 20 minutes and Wands had to make a couple of outstanding saves.

At the start of the second half, Luthermuir began to gain confidence and they equalised in 60 minutes. Greig crossed from the left and Jai Clayton first-timed the ball past the keeper.

Before play could resume, Sportsman’s had a man sent off for throwing a punch at Craig.

The game became towsy with a host of bookings as Sportsman’s looked to preserve their unbeaten record.

With ten minutes to play, Luthermuir were also reduced to ten men when Matt Miller was sent off for a second booking.

Luthermuir grabbed a winner five minutes from time. A ball over the top released Clayton and he slotted under the keeper.

In the closing minutes and a period of stoppage-time, the Luthermuir defence had to soak up a lot of pressure as they held on for victory.
