Banchory was the destination last weekend for the Mackie Minis where Deeside RFC were hosting their annual mini rugby tournament.
The P4’s managed to field a Reds and a Blacks team, and the P5’s just Reds, but all kids taking part played a huge role in another successful day this season for the now rampaging Mackie Mini’s.
The boys and girls where competing against host club Deeside, Aberdeen Grammar, Garioch, Aberdeen Wanderers and for the P5s a touring Musselburgh squad.
As has been the case for much of the season with the Mackie teams, whoever is selected to play always does themselves proud with great displays of teamwork, strong crash-balls, penetrative evasive running, fabulous passing and great support play that left the opposition struggling to keep up for much of the day.
Deeside were the tough and courageous opposition in both P4 and P5 age-group finals but after tight, tense starts the big Red and Black Mackie machines clicked into gear and the tries started flowing with both squads running out convincing, if not altogether easy, winners of what where extremely hard games against very good local rivals. Mackie were Deeside champions 2014.
Thanks as ever go to Deeside RFC for putting on a fantastic event and to the traveling band of Mackie parents and supporters who provide such vocal encouragement to the kids...it really does make a difference!
Roll on Garioch next week for the final tournament of a long, but so far very successful mini rugby season for the Mackie Minis.
