Bowling season under way for Stoney

The 2014 Outdoor Bowling season gets under way this Saturday at 1.30pm.

After the Recreation Grounds are officially opened for the season, there will be a challenge match between the President’s Select and an Eric McWilliams Select beginning at 2pm.

This match is in recognition of Eric’s long association with the club which extends to a grand total of 60 years.

Members are reminded that memberships are now due and must be paid along with green fees prior to the competitions being drawn on Sunday, April 20.

All new members are invited to meet the president and some of his committee at 10.30am on the morning prior to the opening to get a tour of the facilities and a heads up on how the club competitions are organised.Members also please note that all the season’s domestic competition sheets are available in the clubhouse and entries should be made in the coming few days.

The club is looking forward to a good season and, owing to some great work by Glen Falconer, George Ewan and Brian Thomson has obtained some tremendous sponsorship for this year’s Open Tournaments and also some of the domestic competitions –details to follow in the coming weeks.

The first good news on the sponsorship front is the donation of a new scoreboard thanks to James McDonald Funeral Directors.

Some of the members have been hard at work constructing the supports for the board which will be in position for opening day.

At the AGM in February, members voted the following on to the committee (these people have also agreed to be hassled for the next four months!):

President - Graeme Penny

Vice President - Eddie Taylor

Junior Vice President - Glen Falconer

Immediate Past President - Steve Gellatly

Secretary/Match Secretary - Chris Ford

Treasurer - Dave Mundie

Committee Members - John Lawson, George Ewan, Ian Howie and Willie Donald.
