Bowls results

Aberdeen and Kincardineshire County team had another excellent result on Saturday when they beat Highland by 32 shots.

They take over top spot with two matches to go and now lead on shot difference from Angus, two points in front of Northern Counties who they play next week at Inverness.

Stonehaven have five players (Mark and Alister McIntosh, Graeme Penny, Steve Gellatly and A. Mitchell) in the County pool and it would be a great experience for them to reach the last eight in the Andrew Hamilton Trophy this season.

Stonehaven managed to get three teams into the Bowls Scotland regional semi finals, two of them skipped by Jim Roddie. He is with Alister McIntosh in the pairs and came in as a substitute along with Joe Aitken to make up a winning Senior Rink last Thursday. Both teams now play their semi finals at Seafield BC. Graeme Penny also made the semis with a good singles win and now plays his semi final at Stonehaven.

In the Mearns League both home and away teams triumphed last week and took all five points from their match against Laurencekirk BC.

On Monday, the Barclay Harvey teams went to Laurencekirk to play Drumlithie BC and both rinks came away with good wins and now play Portlethen BC at Inverbervie in this season’s semi final.

The A&K League fours teams completed the campaign with a five-shot win at home and a single shot defeat away at Kincardine O’ Neil and so claimed the bonus point for an aggregate victory. However it’s been a disappointing competition for the Stoney bowlers this season as they have usually made the top two in recent years.

The Stoney Club hosted a match against Craigie Bc of Dundee last Sunday and triumphed by 101 shots to 83. The individual rink scores were (Stonehaven skips first) – G. Knowles18,

T. Diamond 13, M. Nevill6,

S. Potter 26, D. Ewing 18, B. Thoms 12, S. Gellatly 7, R. Mack 17, D. Buchan 16, J. Short 8, G. Penny 6, W. McCash 17.

The Seniors went to Cults last Wednesday and took a commanding lead before the tea break. Unfortunately, the Stoney men faltered after the interval and lost by one shot. Individual rink scores (Stoney skips first) – R. Smith 9, D. Steele 18, G. Buchan 3, N. Hartley 17, M. Nevill 14, F. Baxter 13, R. Harrison 22, P. Anderson 11.
