Coaches at Links Archers in Montrose are celebrating a bevy of medals from the Scottish National Championships in Penicuik last week.

Hannah Worthington of Mearns Archers, was U18 ladies champion, with new a Scottish record.

Her training partner, Sarah Fraser of Abbey bowmen in Arbroath, took the silver medal.

Curtis Hirst from Lathallan School won the U14 boys category with his mum, Fiona, placed second in the lady novices.

Richard Smith and Emily Blake from Links completed the set by taking the Gents Novice and U21 ladies compound trophies.

Coach Alan Wood said this was a great result and made the work in coaching a local network of clubs worthwhile.

The Links coaching team have so far expanded to running school junior clubs at Mearns Academy and Lathallan School as well as drawing in archers from other clubs who are looking for additional coaching.

Alan said: “This is part of our development plan to increase archery participation in the area.

‘‘Thanks to a grant from the National Lottery we will be moving to the next phase this winter by creating a new adult club in Laurencekirk which will support the school junior club.”
