Comfortable home win for Aberdeenshire

Aberdeenshire South took on Granite City Wanderers 5ths at sunny but freezing cold Hillhead SC on Saturday, in an entertaining game that saw ASHC win 4-0.

Right from the start, ASHC attacked and still did so right up to the end of the game but owingto lack of composure, poor finishing and some good goalkeeping the score should have been much more.

As early as three minutes into the game, Gavin McNab saw the Granite City keeper save his in-bound shot.

Further attempts by Connor Munroe, Peter Wooldrige and George Wiles were all saved or missed the goal, and it took until the 12th minute for the deadlock to be broken when a good passing move - started at right back by Ben Wooldridge - saw the ball find Gavin McNab in the scoring circle. He evaded two tackles and then slotted the ball past the keeper for 1-0.

Within five minutes, it was 2-0 when a penalty corner strike by Kevin McNab was saved by the Granite City keeper but the rebound again fell to K McNab who took his time and flicked high into the net.

The scoring wasn’t finished there in the half and another penalty corner saw K McNab go past the two runners and then the keeper and, as he went to shoot, the ball spun off his stick to P Wooldridge, who took his time and passed the ball across goal to Jack Taylor to put into the empty net. (HT 3-0)

The second half saw their continued dominance but it took 25 minutes for ASHC to score. A free hit inside the Granite City half was quickly taken by K McNab who drove forward and, with plenty space, he found G McNab inside the circle to place the ball past the keeper 4-0.

There was one moment of panic for ASHC when J Taylor played the ball off the Granite City forward’s shin only see the ball go past Ruaraidh Macnaughton in the ASHC and into the goal. Fortunately the umpire did see the offence and a goal wasn’t awarded. (FT 4-0)
