Down to the wire for Winter Golf finals

As expected the attempt to qualify for the Winter League finals went right down to the wire last weekend.

In the scratch doubles it looked like the four long standing pairs would remain unchanged with Alan Officer and Colin Arthur requiring to beat a 67 to take the fourth place and last year’s champions Ross McAllan and Kevin Riddell requiring a season’s best. The young guns did just that and scored a gross 62, however Colin and Alan were unable to better their 67 leaving both teams tied on a season average of 65.3 alongside Willie Pittendreigh and Graeme Adamson. Ross and Kevin qualified on count back with their 8th best score being a 66 just beating Alan and Colin who had been in the qualifying position for the whole of the winter.

Scratch qualifiers 1st- S. Dempster & B.McGillivary (62.6), 2nd – N.Irvine & H.Roulston (62.7), 3rd – G.Robb & G.McFarlane (63.0), 4th – R.McAllan & K.Riddell (65.3). In the handicap no changes took place with the pairings order being 1st – S.Campbell & M.Halliday (57.0), 2nd – K.Duncan & I.Wood (58.1), 3rd- A.Barnett & T.Simpson (58.6), 4th – J.Neal & D.Henderson (58.6).

No movement in the top spots for singles qualification took place however a score of 36 points was good enough for Terry Middleton to take last place in the singles narrowly beating Murray Bruce by one shot. Singles Qualifiers 1st – A.Davidson (38pts), 2nd – S.McGhie (37.7), 3rd – J.Lonie (37.6), 4th - N.Macarthur.
