Last Monday night saw the last match of the Aberdeenshire U13 cricket season held at Mineralwell.
A combined Deeside U13 cricket team, players from Stonehaven Thistle CC and Banchory CC, played Stoneywood Dyce CC U13’s.
The Deeside team performed well against a much older and stronger Stoneywood Dyce team.
Stonehaven Thistle players Sam Barrie, James Holt, Jake De Jager, and Matt & Josh Keyser supported the Banchory players of Daniel Brown, Daniel Hemmings and Andrew Ewart.
Stoneywood batted first where their age and size told, hitting a number of boundaries, including one 6.
But good tight bowling from all of the Deeside players kept the score down to 110 for 3, off 16 overs.
Particular mention to Jake De Jager who clean bowled one of the bigger Stoneywood batsmen, with Sam Barrie, Josh and Matt Keyser bowling tight, giving away few runs. Daniel Brown again bowled well, for little reward, passing the bat, but missing the stumps on a number of occasions.
In reply Deeside scored 95 for 7 off 16 overs. Andrew Ewart belied his age of 11 to hit 4 fours in quick succession.
Daniel Hemmings was unlucky to be caught twice in amongst some big shots. Sam Barrie played a good technical innings, with little reward. James Holt showing good power, scored two good fours to the leg boundary.
Fine batting, with a solid defence from Matt Keyser, supported by Josh held the Stoneywood bowlers at bay at the end of the innings. Unfortunately good catching from Stoneywood made the difference.
A good end to the season and a good sign for next year when the team will be bigger and stronger.
Pete Law Stonehaven Thistle CC Junior Coordinator said: “Thanks to our sponsors the Station Hotel for their support and special thanks to the Stonehaven Lions for their generous donation at the Feein Market, which has been used for much needed junior cricket equipment.”
