The first game of the new season Kincardine & Mearns Bowling League took place last week against Laurencekirk. The home team of Ernie Auld, Frank Laing, Mary Brebner and Fiona Dundas managed to win by 14 shots It had been a close encounter, but was helped by a count of 6 at one end, The away team of Bill Webster, Alan Robbie, Roy Mowatt and Fred Innes put up a valiant effort, having been all square with 4 ends to go, but in the end missed out by 3 shots. With an overall victory however by 11shots, Johnshaven managed to pick up the extra point
The Friday night hat night was one by Sam McDonald, Kevin Laing and Ernie Auld . Hat nights continue each Friday at 7pm, to which all bowlers can come along
The Club had an Open 7 Ends Competition in aid of the Carpet Fund on Sunday May 10. Entrants were down a bit this year from normal for varying reasons, so it was decided to change from a knockout, to a round robin competition
At the end of the group stages, the four semi-finalists were Sandy Jamieson from St Cyrus and Kevin Laing, Bill Webster and Fiona Anderson from Johnshaven
In the semi-finals Kevin Laing defeated Fiona Anderson and Sandy Jamieson won against Bill Webster
In the final Kevin started off superbly with a full house at the first end but Sandy did exactly the same at the second end. The next 5 ends were a lot closer but in the end, Sandy came out victorious by 9-5
Johnshaven Bowling Club are having an Open Day this Saturday, May 16 from 2-4pm. At Wairds Park. Young and not so young are invited to come along and try their hand at bowling for free, with bowls and tuition provided.
