Stonehaven runner Kelsey Stewart is looking to mix it up for the upcoming outdoor season after finishing up her indoor competitons.

The popular runner and Aberdeen University student won her first Scottish senior title at the end of January at the Scottish Indoor Championships in Glasgow in the 400m.

Kelsey is now looking forward to the outdoor season which she says could take a number of different turns. She will open her season on April 2 with a 400m and 4x400m at the Scottish Universities Championships which will be hosted in Aberdeen.

She said: “The World Junior Championships are being held in Poland this year and selections for this take place after the trial race in June. I will be targeting the 4x400m but if things were going really well at the start of the summer we would maybe consider trying to get the 800m time but we will just have to see how things go.”

Kelsey also won a bronze at the English under 20 indoor championships in the 400m in Sheffield followed by a silver in the 800m in Sheffield in the British Unversities Championships.

She finished off her indoor season with a gold at the Scottish under 20 Championships in the 800m at the start of March. The race was a new indoor personal best and a championship best performance which is the fastest anyone has ever run in the 800m at the Scottish under 20 indoor championship.

Speaking about her gold win Kelsey added: “I was going into the race with an open mind and just planned on going with the flow which I did and was glad to win. I hit the front at around 350m to go and hoped nobody would catch me. This was an indoor personal best for me and the championship record. Deep down I was hoping for a bit faster but it was still a very good time and it gives me a nice target for the outdoor season.”
