Three members from Boydell Blackbelt Academies (BBA) based in Stonehaven are looking to get selected for the European Championships in October.
Dani Simmers, Jodie Boydell and Katina Carr all attended the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) 2015 World Championships, in Jesolo, Italy towards the end of May as part of the Scottish National Team.
Both Dani Simmers and Jodie Boydell, 1st degree black belts made their international debut for Scotland. Dani who sustained a nasty injury at the turn of the year, requiring surgery, demonstrated great commitment in her rehabilitation to, in the end, take her place as a reserve for both Team Pattern and Team Sparring events.
Jodie, the youngest member of the Scotland team earned her place in the squad by competing in National selections at the end of 2014. Jodie was selected for individual pattern and as a member of the Team pattern event. In both events Jodie performed extremely well, however the competition was just too strong. A great start to her International career.
Next up was arguably Scotlands current top performer Katrina Carr, 2nd degree black belt and captain of the Junior Girl Squad, now a very experience campaigner, 2 x European Sparring Champion, World Cup Sparring Champion and Silver medalist at the last World Championships for Sparring two years ago. This year was no different. Her sustained dedication to training yielded yet another World Silver medal for sparring, this time in a heavier weight division.
All three girls will now turn their attention to the selection process for forthcoming European Championships in October, hosted in Scotland.
