Mackie Academy S1 boys basketball team travelled to Banchory Academy to play their first match in the Scottish Schools Cup on Wednesday, November 20.

The Mackie team played some fantastic team basketball and headed home to Stonehaven with an emphatic 12 to 54 win.

The return match will be played at Mackie Academy next Tuesday, December 10, where it is hoped that the boys will again come out on top and then go through to the next round as regional winners.

Rector Louise Moir said: “Our S1 basketball team has been doing great things out there in the game.

“Against Banchory they won 54-12 which is a fantastic achievement although, as always, there is room for improvement.

“Their coach, Jackie Bruce, said that the boys need to learn and practice a ‘bank shot.’

‘‘Clearly, I will need to do the same as I am none the wiser at this moment in time!Well done to the boys.”

The team would like to say a big thank you to Ross Nicholson, Active Schools Co-ordinator for his support.
