Newtonhill Bowling Club will kick-off the 2015 season with the traditional Opening of the Green next Sunday, April 19, at 2pm.
The club enjoyed a very successful season in 2014 - winning both the Kincardine and Mearns League and the Barclay Harvey Cup.
In addition, the Ladies Triples won the District competition and went on to represent the Club and District at the Scottish National Championships at Northfield in Ayrshire.
The club is always on the look out for new members - regardless of age, ability or previous bowling experience. In addition to the usual club competitions, regular “Hat Nights” are held every Tuesday evening at 6.30pm. These, together with similar events held most afternoons, give members (new and old) the opportunity to play less formal games - with members offering informal coaching and advice to beginners or newer members.
The club also holds a variety of social events throughout the year, including a Bingo Night - held on the first Saturday of every month at 7.30pm which non-members are more than welcome to attend. Other events include a Burns Supper, fun and games (annual Target Bowls and Bottle Stall) and a New Year’s Eve party.
Also, in conjunction with Bowls Scotland, the Club will be participating in this year’s Try Bowls event on April 25 and 26 aimed at encouraging non-bowlers to give the sport a try. The Club will be open to all non-members between 2 and 4pm on both dates, at which time anyone interested in trying bowls is welcome to come along and “give it a go”.
Anyone considering joining the Club should come along to the Opening of the Green on April 19. However, should anyone require information regarding the events contact Bill Anderson on 01569 731550.
