Despite a rising gale-force wind in the closing stages of his round at Portlethen, Paul Lawrie, with a brilliant, six-under-par score of 64, won last weeks North-east Golfers’ Alliance fixture. It was his second victory in three weeks, following up son Craig’s success last week at Buckpool. Paul birdied the second, seventh, ninth, 11th, 15th and 16th in halves of 33 (three under) and 31 (three under). He had a tremendous run of six successive 3s from the seventh to the 12th and had, in all, 10 3s on his bogey-free card.
He won by a stroke from Newmachar-attached pro John Duff whose 65 was also bogey-free and had birdies at the first, third, 12th, 13th and 15th in halves of 34 and 31.
Paul Lawrie Golf Centre players Greg McBain and Alan Stuart shared third place on 68.
Laura Murray (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) and Michele Thomson (Meldrum House) both finished in the top 10, Laura with a 69 and Michele with a 70.
The next NE Alliance fixture will be played at Inverallochy on Wednesday, January 6.
