Banchory Stonehaven AC’s Kathryn Christie, from Finzean, was competing against world class athletes last weekend at the Sainsbury’s International Match held at the Emirates Arena.
Scotland were competing for the first time in the event’s 23year history, so to be up against world class athletes from the US, a Commonwealth Select team and GB/NI was an experience to be savoured by the 19-year-old, and was great experience.
In front of a capacity crowd of 5000, and with the event televised by the BBC, Kathryn ran in the 150m and 60m, setting personal best times in both of 17.89s and 7.64s.
The Scotland team came in a creditable fourth place, but with no less than five Indoor records being set, a native high jump record, and a number of PB’s including Kathryn’s. The atmosphere gave some indication of what Scottish athletes can expect at the Commonwealth games in July.
This Sunday, February 2, will see Kathryn competing in the Senior National Indoors Championships at the Emirates Arena again.
