ASHC won in a game which they could have made easier for themselves.

In the first game of the league, Aberdeenshire South were looking for a strong start to put the cup behind them.

Within six minutes, the ASHC were pressing the University circle when they broke, two missed tackles resulted in a two versus one situation with Deighton but the University striker slipped the ball passed him into the empty net 0-1.

ASHC went straight on the attack and shots from Gavin McNab, Stuart Black and a penalty corner strike from Scott McNab were all well saved by the University keeper. Finally, after 10 minutes, another penalty corner wasflicked low past the keeper by Robbie Wallis to level the game (1-1).

With Mitchell Deighton a spectator for the rest of the half, ASHC continued to attack and a corner was slipped to Stuart Black who fired home the goal to take them into the lead.

A third ASHC goal came soon after and it was a second of the match for Stuart Black as a good passing move between him and George Wiles saw Black flick it past the helpless keeper ht 3-1.

Early in the second half, a mistimed tackle from ASHC’s Jack Taylor resulted in a green card but the team kept pushing and a scramble in front of the University goal from a penalty corner in the 46th minute saw the ball fall to Iain Sawers who fired low into the bottom corner on his reverse stick 4-1.

ASHC kept pushing and pushing and, following a passing move, the ball went on to Ben Wooldridge who hammered home a low shot from the top of the circle into the bottom corner 5-1.

The next goal came for the University team, an uncommon break found them through on goal and they flicked the ball past the outstretched Mitchell Deighton as two of the ASHC players tried to recover. They missed the ball on the line and it fell in 5-2.

ASHC picked up where they left off, kept pushing for the sixth and, following a string of penalty corners, Gavin McNab fired home from the top of the circle for the final score of the game. 6-2
