Winter golf league finals are completed

The line up for the Winter League finals weekend was completed over last weekend with Colin Arthur and Alan Officer’s 65 good enough to join Stuart Dempster and Barry Mcgillivary scoring a gross 67 which beat Stewart Allsop and Brian Lawson’s nine-round total of 588 by one shot.

The top two pairings of Irvine and Roulston and Riddell and McAllan will join them in this weekend’s two-round finals.

Kenny Duncan and Ian Wood’s efforts to qualify for the scratch competition also came up short with the pairing dropping into the nett competition as number one qualifiers with a nine-round total of 520, joining them in the final is Deans and McHardy and MacKay and Hepburn.

Alistair Barnett and Tom Simpson took the last spot from John Neal and Douglas Henderson by virtue of having a better 10th score than their opponents.

Leading Doubles Scratch scores (with 9 round total):- Irvine and Roulston 63(572), Wood & Duncan 65(591), Arthur and Officer 65(584), Riddell and McAllan 65(577), Lawson and Allsop 66(588), Dempster and McGillivary 67(587).

Leading Doubles Handicap scores (with nine-round total):- Neal and Henderson 57(529), Wood and Duncan 58(520), Barnett and Simpson 58(529), Lawson and Allsop 59(532), Deans and McHardy 60(525), MacKay and Hepburn 60(525).

The winner of the singles competition will come from the following eight players - Steve McGhie, Frank Urquhart, Grant Robb, Ian Smith, Jim Lonie, Mike Rendall, Richard Tindall and Donald Mitchell with the later being the form player scoring 39 points last week.

Stonehaven defeated Edzell in the second round of the Mail On Sunday competition at home with the five-man team winning 3.5 to 1.5. A.Officer (9) 1UP v W.Bremner Jnr. (+2), A.Cruickshank (6) 3 and 2 v W.Bremner Snr.(7), B.Lawson(9) v A.Young (10) All Square, D.Summers (12) 1 Up v P.Andrew (16), S.Allsop(6) v B.Beatie (4) 2 and 1.


Tickets are now on sale for Amateur Boxing Night in the town Hall on Friday the 5th of April priced £35 including 2 course meal, this proved to be a popular event last tear and tickets should be purchased from the Golf Club early to avoid missing out, visitors are welcome at this event.
