New season off to wet and windy start

The new season got off to a wet and very windy start with early morning players typically getting the worst of the weather. This resulted in only 82 players turning up and 13 players failing to complete a score in the monthly Innes Medal. Only four players beat the CSS for the day of 66 with Brian Reid in division 3 having the best nett score of 64.

Ron Gilmour and junior club champion Ross Anderson topped division 1 with a nett 65 and Ross had the best scratch score with a fine 70. In division 2 Frank Urquhart’s nett score of 65 also topped his division by one stroke from Ewan Campbell and Ian Wood. In division 3 Brian Reid’s 64 was good enough for a two stroke win from Jim Adam.

The Council wishes to announce the signing of an official contract between the Golf Club and catering company Cool Gourmet. They have been working at the club since September last year on a less formal basis and we have been delighted with the quality and presentation of their food. We are now able to cater for a range of events from the daily golfer’s fare to the requirements of sophisticated weddings. We hope this is the start of a long and successful relationship between the two organisations.

Junior Convener, Neil Irvine would also like to remind members that Clubgolf coaching will be starting up again on Sunday 17th April for 10 weeks. This involves taking all primary 5 schoolchildren who have been shown the basics at their schools and are keen to continue being coached. This year we have 30 children showing an interest in the game and along with 16 children who are keen to return from last year we are having to spread our sessions over three hours from 5 to 8pm on a Sunday evening. This means the first and second holes will be out of action during this time. Neil would like to hear from anyone who is keen to be trained as a coach to assist the existing 6 coaches we have at present.
