Rotary Club of Laurencekirk and District are planning to run a sponsored event in aid of UCAN Charity, as part of the Rotary Great Britain and Ireland Rotary Ride 2016.
The event will be run nationally on Sunday, June 19 2016, Father’s Day.
Last year members of the Laurencekirk Rotary club took part in this cycle challenge and raised funds and donated over £4000 to Prostrate Scotland.
This year proceeds will go to UCAN, who together with Prostrate Scotland, UCAN have made a huge contribution to the provision of facilities at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for the treatment of Urological Cancers.
Laurencekirk Rotary President Allan Smith spoke to us this week and told us about the different challenges.
He said: “Last year we ran three different events, coping for cyclists with differing abilities. We plan to run three events on Fathers day this year and hope that one of the events will suit you.
“The events will consist of a 30 mile moderate run around the villages of the Mearns. Starting in Laurencekirk, travel to Auchenblae, then through the picturesque Drumtochty Glen to Fettercairn. Then heading towards Edzell village and turn off to Edzell Woods and along the easy “Lang Stracht” and on to Luthermuir. From Luthermuir you return to Laurencekirk by the Sauchieburn and Thornton.”
Laurencekirk Rotary will be publishing details of registration and sponsor forms in the near future but have asked Kincardine and Mearns to save the date.
Allan added: “The second event will be a 12 mile triangular easy route round the Mearns triangle, and the third route will be an off-road 2 mile route through Denlethen Wood for families with younger children similar to last years event.
Please make a note in your diary for Sunday, June 19, Father’s Day, and help us raise funds for Urological CANcers in the North-East.”
