The season got underway on Saturday but it was anything but Spring like weather for the Malcolm Sargent Cancer Care Medal with all the seasons combining to make difficult conditions for the 120 participants. Mark Hunter took the spoils with an 84 less his 24 handicap giving a nett score of 60 to win his first competive singles competition by one shot from Gamola Golf’s front man Graeme Masterton whose gross 68 was the lowest of the day.
Mark will now be entered into a qualifying draw for the charities finals day at Gleneagles at the end of the season.
Other close contenders were Martin McCoy with a nett 62 one shot ahead of the Graeme McFarlane, Jarod Shuttleworth and Brian Reid, however its fair to say that any score below the standard scratch of 66 should be commended based on the challenging playing conditions and the difficulty of putting on the early season greens.
Leading Nett Scores:- M.Hunter 60(24), G.Masterton 61(7), M.McCoy 62 (17), G.McFarlane 63(11), J.Shuttleworth 63(20), B.Reid 63(22), G.Knowles 64(10), A.Murray 64(18), R.McIntosh 64(20), C.Brown 65(12), K.Taylor 65(12), M.Campbell 65(16), A.Duncan 65(12).
