Daniel Harris (P5 Arduthie School) won his qualifying pool at the Scottish Schools Badminton Union (SSBU) U11 boys singles event in Wishaw on Saturday January 10. He went on to beat the number 4 seed, Noah Sarvesaran (Glasgow), in the quarter-finals but was eventually knocked out in the semi-final by the number 1 seed and tournament winner Anthony McGuire (Lanarkshire).

In the doubles event he made it all the way to the final with his partner (Finlay Sheriff from Stirling) who he was drawn with as an open entry. The pair won their qualifying pool, then went on to win their semi-final against Arjun Rajagopal and Josh Taylor (Glasgow) 21-18 but were pipped at the post in an exciting final 17-21 / 18-21 by the number one seeded pair from Lanarkshire, Anthony McGuire and Nicky Hart, who they had previously beaten 24-22 in the qualifier

Daniel’s sister, Jodie Harris (S1 Mackie Academy) also did very well on Sunday January 11 at the RSL Midlothian U14 girls singles event in Penicuik. She comfortably won all of her group matches, even beating the number 1 seeded player Naomi Branford (Lothian) 21-11.
