White Cup semi place

This White Cup quarter-final was not a great game, but it was Johnshaven who were smiling at the end, as they booked their place in the semi-final.

Johnshaven nearly got off to the perfect start after just two minutes. Beedie crossed for Ross Blease, but he could only direct his shot narrowly wide of the post with the keeper beaten.

Johnshaven took the lead in 33 minutes. Beedie won a free kick and Tom Dalgarno stepped up to score off the inside of the post.

Johnshaven raised the tempo and Beedie showed a terrific piece of skill on the wing to cut inside and his fierce shot came off the post and bounced back out into the hands of the goalkeeper.

In the 47th minute Slavin whipped a dangerous ball across the six yard line and Shaun Blease was on hand to ‘shin’ the ball into the empty net.

It took Glendale until the 61st minute to have their first real chance. A striker found himself in on goal after a defensive slip, but keeper Smith came out to save brilliantly.

In the 70th minute Beedie won a penalty after he was adjudged to have been fouled by the goalkeeper. Ross Blease stepped up to continue his impressive penalty success streak and give his side a three-goal lead.

In the last 10 minutes Johnshaven were guilty of taking their foot of the gas and Glendale pulled a goal back when the left back found himself in space on the edge of the box to rifle home a consolation.

With the game coming to an end Johnshaven were able to keep possession of the ball far into the oppositions half, a move that seemed to frustrate the hosts and Hood was fouled on the edge of the box. The ball was whipped in by Hood to the back post but a defender cleared the danger and with that the referee blew for full time.

While there were lots of positives to take from the game, and a first semi-final for a few years to look forward to, there is definitely much room for improvement in the away team’s performance if they want to go on to lift the cup.

Johnshaven: Matthew Smith, Jack Dalgarno, Lawrence Slavin, Steven Scott, Robert Tringham, Ross Blease, Shaun Blease (Grant Philip), Tom Dalgarno, Scott Beedie, Lee Hood, Darren Cruickshank (Jordan Rausch).
