The weather lived up to its name for ‘Winter’ League Finals on Sunday with the players in the rearranged second round having to contend with wet and blustery conditions.

The senior pairing of Neil Irvine and Harry Roulston out-scored their much younger nearest rivals, Kevin Riddell and Ross McAllan, by one shot scoring a gross 62 - one better than the young guns.

With both teams scoring 66s last week, this meant the title was retained by Neil and Harry with an aggregate score of 127.

In third place were Barry McGillivary and Stuart Dempster with a two round score of 131.

The nett pairings of George Deans & Gordon McHardy and Craig Mackay & Jim Hepburn could not be split, both teams had rounds of 60 and 63 to tie the competition and as we had two years ago both were declared joint winners.

Just one shot behind on 124 was Alistair Barnett & Tom Simpson who took third place.

Steve McGhie took a six-shot lead into the second round and he knew that a steady round would be good enough to take the singles title however with the best singles round of 35 points this allowed him to win comfortably by eight shots with an aggregate of 73.

In second place on 65 points was past-captain Mike Rendall pipping Richard Tindall by one point.

From now until the first competitive medals begin at the start of April there are some warm up type competitions to ease the non-winter playing golfers back into the groove, however with the weather not quite being spring like only 27 players returned cards with Jim Lonie producing the best points tally of 38 - one better than Ewan Campbell and Tim Prentice, Kevin Duguid took fourth place with 36 points.
