Work has this week begun on building the all weather sports facility at Mineralwell park.
The Stonehaven Community All Weather Surface Facility Committee signed off on the final stages of the construction contract with Hunter - Building and Civil Engineering in February.
Work is expected to last 14 weeks and Chairman of Stonehaven Town Partnership Douglas Samways spoke to The Leader about his happiness at the work beginning.
He said: “I’m really pleased that construction has begun.
“It’s long overdue as an all weather sports facility has been much needed in the community.”
The committee was granted £295,000 by Sportscotland and £320,000 from Aberdeenshire Council to create the facility.
It will include three floodlit all-weather pitches - one large one and two smaller ones.
The pitches will be open for local sports groups to use, as well as members of the public and school pupils.
