Eleven artists from the Mearns and Aberdeen gathered at The Burn House, Edzell for a two-day painting course last weekend.
The course was the first to be held in the new studio workspace which has recently been created in the courtyard.
The studio – which is the ‘brainchild’ of director of The Burn David Turner OBE - is one of several recent renovation projects currently underway at The Burn House, one more step in a journey which will, hopefully, see the Burn become established as a leading conference facility and centre for the arts.
The House already hosts wedding parties alongside its traditional role as a conference venue for academics and students from far and wide.
Last weekend’s painting course was a great success.
Fine weather on the Saturday allowed the artists to get out and about in the magnificent grounds to sketch and paint in a variety of media including pencil, charcoal, acrylic and watercolour - which proved the most popular medium.
Some artists braved the cold the following day to finish work en plein air while others chose to develop studio- based works in the comfort of the newly refurbished studio-workspace.
The course ended with a plenary session when tutor for the weekend, David Johnston, commented on the consistently high standard of work produced.
